Leagues and Age Requirements

1. You must indicate your child’s age group on the form. To convert from grade level to age group (UX), use the formula:

X = Grade + 6

Using this formula, Kindergarten is Grade 0, and Pre-K is Grade -1.

2. The age cutoff for Soccer does not match the age cutoff for school. Kids with birthdays after July 31 can play with their grade level or one grade lower if desired. For example, a Third Grader who turns 8 after July 31 could play with the other Third Graders (U9) or with the Second Graders (U8). A Third Grader who turns 8 on or before July 31 can play with the Third Graders (U9) or in rare situations with a Fourth Grade (U10) team. The choice to “play up” is made by the child’s family based on the child’s experience and maturity level.

3. Pre-K Soccer is designed for children entering Kindergarten the following year. These children are typically 4 years old, although some may still be 3 in the Fall if they have a late birthday, and some may turn 5 in the Spring if they have an early birthday. Children under 4 years old may not participate without a responsible adult actively on the field as a coach or assistant coach.

4. There is no limit to the number of coaches and helpers per team. The ideal number is at least 4. There is a place to indicate your willingness to volunteer on the registration form. If you have any questions, please email soccer@harwintonsports.org.
